Hello!

My friend is trying to start a database/resource. Kind of like http://www.imdb.com and http://www.allmusic.com but on a different subject. He's thinking of using a Wiki site (not sure which one) instead of getting a database built, due to the initial xpense and coding side of things. He wants to make money from advertisings and thinks it will be a popular site.

After talking with him I thought I would post here as I'm curious about what members here think? To me it seemed like an idea worth pursuing and I may help him out with it if I can but a couple of points I wasn't sure about. Wiki culture seems to be 'for free and for the love of it' from what I've seen so I don't know how that would affect this as a business idea. I'm also not sure how much money a site can really make make from advertising.
