Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie so go gently with me!
I am starting up a small book-keeping practise in the next couple of months but am currently at the business plan stage. I will be working on my own and dealing with small businesses.
Can any other book-keepers recommend the most appropriate software to use and, if possible, give an indication of the price?
The software licence for Sage is enormous which is why I am interested in what other book-keepers are using.
Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hi
I think Mamut do a free version for Start-ups. Maybe others on here could provide the link, as I can't remember where it was!

Sage is a pain as they charge per client - although I understand it is possible to save each client as a backup and restore it each time you wish to switch clients. I should of course point out this would be a breach of the licence agreement.
QuickBooks allows 99 companies or something equally huge for a single fee and is to my mind a bit easier to use, although in practice if you are going to set up as a bookkeeper you will need to cover both of these packages and MYOB as different clients will already own different packages when the throw themselves as your feet having given up with their own paperwork!

Hi
My accountant has signed me up with MYOB software. I use business basics as I am not vat registered, and have the option of upgrading as my business grows. It can handle VAT, etc, does trial balances etc. Has all the nominals etc. It is very easy to use and does not have the annual fees associated with Sage. It also cost less than £100. His website is www.hereforhelp.co.uk He can provide Sage for those that need it. I use Sage in my full time job and find MYOB very easy to use.
Hope this helps.

http://oe.quickbooks.com/ the online version of quickbooks is very good. they offer a free trial and it solves having to backup your financial data as they do it for you. starts from around £10/month i believe.
