Hi everyone,
I am currently looking into the idea of setting up an entrepreneur club to cater for people setting up their own business, very similar to the first tuesdayconcept but not just for internet businesses.
the initial ideas I have for this are:
1) a club leader in each city
2) monthly meeting for club members
3) member would have the opportunity to barter goods or services to other members in order to help build their business
4) in each city get accountants / solicitors involved as advisors?
5) a web site and forum similar to this one? any ideas
I would be grateful for any feedback the forum have on this subject as to other areas to look at putting into the package, how to set up, if they want to be involved as a city rep or if they want to be a partner in this proposed business?
I look forward to reading your responses.
cheers

Rick
This is a good idea, I would love to be part of a club, where members could come and listen to 'guest speakers' and talk and form contacts with each other over wine and cheese, for example.
I don't mind lending a hand if you need any help.
All the best
Josef

Rick, it's something we had planned for startups and we were looking at doing it mid to late this year. We'd be very happy to help you out. I have my reservations about using the first tuesday model though, as it basically failed and was always destined to fail. Although I always suspected that main aim of FT was to make the people who developed it into household names, there was never ever a real business plan involved in it.

I organised a get together with other young people looking to start their own biz or where in the early stages of running a company.
It wasn't anything official just a good networking session. It was so popular that i am going to arrange another one next month. Haven't really had time to organise it as i have been occupied with www.oohlalaa.com/oohlalaa
In my experience entrepeneurs want to be able to relate to others and talk to role models they feel they can be like. An excellent example is Sahar from Coffee Republic. Worked really hard, succeeded but still down to earth and willing to tell everyone her story.

It is not clear whether you are planning to operate as a business or a club. Excellent idea for networking, not sure whether there would be enough interest in each city to make it work. Maybe regional may be a better start. The bottom line will be `How much will it cost`
I would like to be involved in any further discussions. I can be contacted at visionaries@ntlworld.com

Rick,
Firstly, I would have to agree with Steve, I can not see the demand at the start for a 'Club Leader' in each city and maybe regional will be the way to go. I do, however, feel that the idea is very sound and will attract a lot of attention.
I would also love to be involved with such a club and can be contacted at mailto:contact@c2webdesign.co.uk

Not sure if anyone has had any direct contact with Rick, but thought we should try and move this idea forward a little.
An obvious starting point would be for Marcus to tell us what ideas they had and whether they could perhaps be brought forward.
I have often thought it would be an interesting idea to bring together local people with business ideas, brainstorm them until you had maybe one or two of the best and then find a way to finance them, ideally with private money.
There has to be people out there with good ideas (apart from me (;0) and people willing to invest, at the moment there is no way to bring them together, at least not where I am.
As I mentioned in my earlier post, the bottom line is and will always be, what will it cost. Initially, what might it cost to set something like this up and then what would it cost for someone to join or take part.
A lot of people have let good ideas fall by the wayside because they either hadn`t got the time, the money or maybe the expertise to risk giving it a try, I know I have over the years. Even now I have ideas and think, Mmmmmm maybe, maybe not, should I, shouldn`t I, will it, won`t it!!! Wouldn`t it be nice to be able to go along somewhere and kick it around with other like minded people, some of whom may have the expertise or experience to fill in the gaps. I would rather have a 25% share in something rather than a 100% share of nothing.
Enough rambling. Lets have some thoughts/ideas here and see where it leads us.

I think this is a good idea as I have found it difficult finding good clubs/events for people in business which are beneficial and not costly. There are many organisations out there for people in business but you need to work out how relevant it is to you and what you can get out of it.

Hi
Hope this idea goes well for you
I started a Business Club up in the District of Selby Last December and so far is doing well. We meet on the first Wednesday of every Month. I engage guest speakers on topics that the members want to hear about. Although Selby is a very small Town I am hopefull of gaining about 50 members in all. We are here for people that have just started in Business or in the very early stages. We are supported by the Selby Business Advice Centre with a Website facility that shows all members in categories to what they do. Links off to their own website and direct email facility, you can email a question to a Business Adviser who will respond within a certain amount of time. (The networking that goes on is terrific.) So Good Luck with your idea.
If I can be of any further help to you with this idea contact me via my email gailadi@hotmail.com
Thanks
