I have just began to create my website that offers computers, hardware, software that is delivered to the customer.
So to sell these products I must use images to advertise to potential customers. I am getting all my products from a reputable trading company that uses a lot of images from different vendors. I do not know if they have taken these images themselves or directly from a website.
However, I did email them if I could use the images on my website- explaining that most of my stock is bought from them and they replied saying I can use the images, so long as I download them and put them on my own server.
Is there any copyright infringement here? I have over 30 vendors and getting in touch with them all would be a tricky task.
Also, if I took my own pictures of these products, would the copyright be mine?
Any advice would be helpful, thanks in advance.

You need to check with your supplier whether they have taken the photos themselves. If they have, and they've given you permission to use them, then no problem. If they're using images created by someone else, you need to obtain permission from the original creator.

Yes, it would.

It would be worth asking them if they own the copyright to them (rather than if they took the pictures themselves).
Ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure that they are entitled to give you permission (ie own the copyright) but as long as you have done everything reasonably possible to ensure this and have evidence to prove it you would always be entitled to call them in as co-defendants if things did go the worse way.

Astaroth, indeed you was right.
The company told me that it was a mixture of images straight from the site and of their own. Anyone thinking of using images without permission- don't. A lot of people have been taken to court and had to pay stupid fees.
Just directly contact any vendors and ask for permission yourself, explaining that it is good for both your business and theirs.

hi chamcha, with regards to the images and descriptions you may be using, although these will probably are being supplied by a main distributor that you are reselling products for, you may find that they them selves do not own the right's ...usually Cnet own these and will fine you...

Copyright is a serious issue. Source images from reputable sources such as stock libraries where you can use images with permission or buy the copyright.

All right.
Simply get in touch with the product manufacturer by email/post, they usually have extra images available for you already.
