Hi - I'm really chuffed today. I got an additional phone number via Skype for just over £20 (For one year). It is linked to my PC but the good thing is I don't have to have business calls coming through my home land line with the fear of my 2 year old picking up the call!!
I was able to choose a 0207 number which will give my business a central london feel to it. People can call me anytime - If I am offline it goes straight to voicemail and I can track my calls and see how many missed calls etc. I can also have the calls diverted etc. if I want to.
I guess there is the option of linking an 0870 number to it but I don't want to at the moment.
This beats paying BT £125 for 2nd line installation and then £11.99 Line rental every month.
And of course I can also call other Skype numbers for free andvice versa.
A good start to the day!!
T

Hey well done you!
The only thing to keep an eye out for with VOIP's such as skype is the fact that you need your pc on for it to be active. Pc's use up about 20p an hour in electricity so it can soon get costly as I found out...
Always good to hear someone getting a good deal though, nice one.

I think that you'll find it closer to 2p per hour for the average user
...and you don't need to leave your PC on. Most of our business customers use proper telephones that are connected to their network not their PC.

Yes but when my PC is off the voicemail cuts in. I tried it just now. The good thing is while you are working you at your PC you can receive calls. Probably not so good for someone who has to be out and about all day but suits me fine.

That sounds pretty good all in all. It might work for me too - I spend many months abroad so if I had a Skype number, I guess I could take calls in foreign lands via my laptop as if I was in the same country (no extra cost to the caller). The only thing I'd be suspicious of is the sound quality and delay.

If you take a lot of calls from abroad then you can chose to select a number from a different country then your clients won't have to pay for international rates.

You could of course get an 0870 from our free switchboard service. That will email you with any voicemails or missed calls instantly allowing you to stay on top of business wherever you are...

Hehe, you panicing smartnumber?
VOIP isn't for everyone, in fact, I've not even tried out my own Skype number yet as I'm waiting for the cash to buy a combined DECT/Skype wireless phone (about £50 from eBay). But I'll let you all know how I get on with it when I do.
