I want to print some stationery, headed paper, business cards, comp slips and also an A4 sized colour brochure. This isn’t one job lot so I’m not looking for discounts based on large orders but I am looking for a printing firm that produces good print and is willing to spend time with a print newbie.
I’ve learnt from shopping around that print is quite different to web graphics and I’m afraid that Ill design something that won’t print correctly or will look crappy, so I need a firm that will advise on this.
Any recommendations?

Yes! I second the earlier suggestion.
Try John Walters of Print Machine.
They are still ranked No 1 by Google, Yahoo and Altavista in the UK in over 20 towns and cities for Full Colour Digital Printing.
If their printing service is half as good as their Internet Marketing they are 'the business'

Two I can recommend:
The first one specialises in small print runs and is really useful if you have no design skills or printing capabilies. www.everydayprint.co.uk
The other one is a helpful family firm I have used in the past. They are extremely focused on quality and offer a risk-reversal policy where the deal is done only when you're completely satisfied.

Hope they're useful.

I've met the guys at EverydayPrint, nice bunch of people [
]
Someone you might also want to look at is Urban Design and Print, at www.urbanprinting.co.uk. I've used them before and they give good results on a quick turnaround. They specialise in flyers, posters etc. but will do stationery too, give them a ring and ask. They also have guidelines for submitting artwork to them on the site.
They're very cheap, but it's worth calling EverydayPrint and asking if they can beat their quote.
Regards,
Justin

Just wanted to mention www.indigo-press.com who recently did some flyers for us - excellent quality, very quick and much cheaper than a lot of other quotes we got. They also do business cards and letterheads and can sort out the art work for you.

Kermey,
If you try contacting us at Print Evolved we can help you get the stationery sorted out with ease. We can even organise for your customers stationery to be put online so they can do repeat orders over the internet. I have a posting in the Startup's section about becoming a Print Management Company, you may find that interesting as I'm sure you could make good money with your current customer base.
Regarding the brochure we have plenty of printers on our network that would be happy to help.
Call me if you need any further help +44 (0)113 256 3791
Good luck
Jeff
