I am starting a new business within the next month specialising in Calligraphic artwork and designing greeting cards. I have been test trading for the past 4 months which really helped me to do some market research and get an idea of what my target customers expect.
I have been looking for a printer to print my cards at a reasonable price so that I can get 100% profit out of it aswell, but have had no luck, I have had ridiculous quotes making it impossible to even make 50% profit. I also need gold detail on the card as most of my designs either contain gold or silver detail.
Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in this field?

HI
I have just posted my own question and found your, I have a print company and may be ably to help
the key to getting the best price is printing the most appropriate way
Digital - Be carefull can be poor quality and restrictions on card weight however its the cheapest for smaller quantities and some newer machine provide very good results
Litho - generally the best quality and range of materials however can be expensive for small quantities due to the relatively long set up time
how many cards do you want to print? what sort of price do you need? i will be happy to tell you if you are in the right ball park

at the moment I have 15 designs and need 100 of each printing, if sales are good then I will be introducing new designs hopefully 1 - 5 every month which will again need 100 prints. I need them to be either 5" x 7" or A5. I am looking to retail somwhere between £1.50 - £2 so I need to be making 100% on top of the cost. I recently had a quote of £1.60 each which I thought will never work as I would't make any profit. It would have to be £1 or under each.
Do you supply the envelopes aswell?
and
do you print in metallic colours?

I think the problem here may the quantity you want which is very low for printers. Try looking at quantities starting at more like 1,000
Alternatively, have a look at colour laser printers and print yourself

if I were to get them printed a 1000 each what sort of price am I looking at for a good quality print?
what about greeting card publishers, do you know much about them and if they would print for me. I have been searching but cannot find one that would print for me and my business alone. the only info I got was that I have to sell them artwork where they'd be makimg the cards and selling in their retail outlets. I need them printed for me and I want to be the only primary supplier of the cards.

Thanks I have sent them an enquiry and requested a brochure. I have also contacted a few other companies like this and requested samples. the samples are great, look really good and prices good but I don't think many of them would print in gold for a good price.
Do you know any thing about greeting card publishers?

Hi there,
Just been reading through your problem, I am starting my own company shortly and I am interested in your greetings cards, my company will be set up as a print broker we will specialse in multimedia packaging, but I like to think I can turn my hands to greetings cards and most general printing.
If you want a quote send me the details via email and I would be happy to quote them for you, please state a few things to make sure the quote is what you ask, Material?/how many colours?/flat size or folded size.
Regards
