The announcement that the government is to launch a ‘nothing off-limits’ small business policy review has been welcomed by a leading business group.
The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said the review was good news for small business but it would need to be considered by every area of government.
“Small firms contribute so much to our economy, but are everyday having to contend with a range of barriers,” said David Frost, director general of the BCC.
“From the difficulties in finding skilled employees to the challenges of an overburdened transport infrastructure, the needs of business extend far and wide.
“Enterprise in the UK will only thrive if its needs are at the heart of every department, and we look forward to working with the government to make this a reality.”
Chancellor Alistair Darling and business secretary John Hutton have invited 20 leading entrepreneurial figures to Downing Street today to ask them what
government can do to further growth among Britain's businesses.
The meeting is the first in a series of consultation events with business owners across the UK to kick-start work on a new enterprise framework.
“Britain has seen a significant increase in the numbers of small businesses in the last four years,” said Hutton.
“We must now build on this success and ensure these small enterprises grow and take advantage of the new global markets.”
