I would have thought that your contracts would make it clear whether you were an employee of the company or self-employed. For example, are they paying your income tax and National Insurance for you? If you are responsible for these payments then I would guess that you are self-employed.

Hi Ben,
It can be a grey area and there are a number of hoops to jump through if you are to succeed in defendind the self employment status. These include who determines if you work, can anyone else substitute, do you use your own equipment. As you are in a fairly specialised occupation the waters get a bit muddled. Iw ould be worth talking to an accountant to clairify the situation as the revenue are likely to tell you that you are employed at both.
Regards
Andrew

I have just recieved a letter back from the inland revenue stating that my contract, if adhered to, counts as self employment.
is it still worth checking this with an accountant as well?
thanks
