I wondered how easy it is to set up direct debits for my customers so that when they purchase an 0800 number from me I can just take out their total amount of call charges at the end of the month like a mobile phone bill?
Plus any way of setting up a direct debit of a set amount per month?
Thanks

You will need a business account. The banks need to trust you so it may take some work but you can DD either a fixed amount or variable.

From the banks point of view you have to be credible. Therefore history is important, almost certainly 1 year, probably 2 or 3. I don’t know if things have moved on recently, but I would be surprised if they where available to startup/very small enterprises.
Ask you bank what their policy is, i would be interested in finding out if they are offering DD's to smaller entities.

iCCommunications,
I required the ability to recieve and setup direct debits, l bank with HSBC, and was told that it was designed for corporations with over 500 employees with an annual turnover in excess of £500,000.
This maybe the line they gave me though ....

The better option in the early years would be to use World Pays 'Future Pay' service. It works alon the same lines as a DD, only it debits the card instead.
The customer signs up online to a future pay agreement and you would enter the amounts required each month.
That's the basics of it, more info on WorldPay's web-site. They do charge a fee to have future pay added but we currently pay £5 per new DD we setup so it would actually work out cheaper as far as setup fees go.
On the DD side of things we get charged 1% of the transaction, where as worlpay is somewhere between 3 & 5% when you take into account their transmission charges etc.
Either way its a way forward.
