Despite constant discussion about the benefits of mobile working, only 50% of small businesses currently use mobile email, according to new research.

A survey by O2 and Reed Business Information (RBI) also found that 61% of firms with under 50 employees have no formal IT or mobile communications strategy.

“We find time and time again with small businesses that perceived cost and complexity is holding them back from adopting mobile email solutions, despite all the benefits their business can gain from them,” said Simon Devonshire, head of small business marketing at O2 UK.

Cost was cited as the main reason for small firms not using mobile email, with a third of respondents expressing pricing concerns.

A special webinar will be held by O2 on 25 September to encourage small firms to make the most of mobile communications.

It will include a live Q&A session, explain the importance of an effective ITC strategy, help identify future mobile communications products and services and demonstrate how they can be used profitably within small businesses.

The event will take place at 11am and will last for an hour. To view the webinar go to www.computerweekly.co.uk/webinar
