It's a method that the spammers use to attempt to make the mail look like 'normal' mail to any anti-spam software that you have installed.
Even though it looks like gobbledygook to us, some anti spam products reading this mail will tend to rate it as low probability of spam simply because it contains words not normally associated with spam.
Obviously, this depends on the type of anti-spam software being used - some are much more sophisticated than others and will detect this as spam correctly. As with anti-virus software, though, for *any* anti spam software to be effective it *must* be kept up to date.
This type of mail should be deleted immediately without even being opened - since simply opening the mail is enough for the spammer to know that your email address is valid. If you have opened this type of mail, under no circumstances should you click the links contained inside.
Opening this type of mail and/or clicking the links inside signals to the spammer that you are a prime target which means that you will undoubtedly get more spam and also the possibility of other nasties downloaded to your computer such as spyware.
Hope this helps,

Just a couple of minor points, if I may. The above is only true if:
1. The email message is in HTML and contains remotely hosted images (as opposed to attached images)
2. Your email client displays remotely hosted images by default - Mozilla Thunderbird blocks these by default and I would hope that by now, MS have woken up and introduced similar measures in Outlook & Outlook Express!

I am an experienced web developer offering very reasonable rates.
I have no intention of striving to be the cheapest around.
Some people, it seems, will work for next to nothing.
I would much rather do the job properly.
As always, the choice is yours!

Yup - that's correct. I left my post 'general' as it's only too easy nowadays to double-click an email and end up verifying to the spammer that your email addy is active before you realise what you've done...
