My name is Harriet and I have just finished my first year at Coventry University studying a BA Graphic Design. I have had a great first year and was lucky enough to achieve a scholarship. Now that it's the summer break I am at home in Milton Keynes, Bucks.I am wanting to get into the Graphic Design industry after my degree and want some live project experience. All I would ask in return is for some honest feedback and a testimonial for my portfolio. I am confident with most print including logo designs, typography, flyers, vector images, photo editing, and web designing. At the moment I am learning how to code a website so would be open to coding a simple website.
I would not be able to fund the printing, so that would have to be sourced by you.
Please get in touch if you would be interested,
Harriet

Hello Harriet,
We have literally just been discussing the design work that we need to have done, so as I have read your post I immediately thought you might be interested in it.
First one is a flyer for our new project with already popular website as the focus point and the other one is a project for our company business cards.
If you would like to know any more detail on those jobs and on who we are please contact me on kastorma@gmail.com to discuss further.
Kind regards,
Kasia

Hi
Great idea to start building your portfolio with real world designs. Have you advertised anywhere else yet? Could I suggest doing a google search for webmaster and internet marketing forums and putting some ads on those also, do a few freebies for the reviews, but only to established members then do some for fairly low charges. Look at the likes of digital point, site point etc. Best of luck to you.

Hi there, I am really interested in learning graphic designs. It just that I was not able to take this course or learn anything about graphic designing while I was still in college because it is not part of the curriculum. And I wasn't able to enhance myself or do some some self-learning. Do you know where I can get a good ebook?

Graphic design is a great subject and it's everywhere and always in demand. If you can't take a course in graphic design you should read up about it, one book that goes through the basics that you need to know is The Production Manual: A Graphic Design Handbook available from amazon here:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/2940373639/ref=sib_rdr_dp
If you are wanting to get into graphic design you will need to work alongside companies and do work experience and build up a portfolio for free like I am doing before you ask companies to pay for your work. They like to see you have had involvement with live projects and can understand what they are asking for, you would also benefit greatly from purchasing the Adobe suite of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. If you are just doing it as a hobby such as reading up on it or creating work for pleasure then I would recommend looking around for books such as the one I suggested.
Knowing whats going on in the design industry is also important and this website is really helpful:
http://www.designweek.co.uk/
I didn't think e-books could display images or illustrations and they will help you learn alot quicker and inspire you.
I hope this helps!

Hi Harriet,
I would be very interested to see whether you can do some graphic design work for us. We are a startup based in Northamptonshire, but as yet have no real branding setup (we are an IT and business processes consultancy). Of course, high quality work that you do for us, we can provide reference/recommendation for.
Can you please let us know what your email address is? I am contactable on the details below my signature.
With thanks,

For learning basic HTML web design, checkout www.webmonkey.com. I learned my first HTML there over 10 years ago. It's a great site, in simple easy to understand language.
I would be quite interested in having some working done. Why don't you check out www.elance.com. You can get loads of work there, AND get paid for it!

Hello Harriet,
I see that you have received a lot of response to your "ad" I was wondering if you still had some time and would be willing to help me out with the logo I am working on right now. I have a small business running right now, but am trying to become more serious with it. If you are still offering your services please contact me at eyesoredesigns[AT]gmail[dot]com
I would be willing to trade one of my items for your service of you were interested.
Thanks for your time,
Sandi

Lol... never mention the word free!!!
If you are really up for growing your portfolio (which is a great idea btw) by offering free design then you might want to consider making a little bit of money by offering print with if.
http://www.facemediagroup.co.uk/ have reseller accounts specifically for design agencies it's particularly good for someone like you because they check all the artwork (colours, sizes and bleeds) and supply a pre-press PDF proof for you to check included in the price.
I guess you could charge whatever you wanted and throw in design for free and the goods get delivered to you, or direct to your client without any branding... just a thought...
Either way good luck
