Hi
I am starting up a web design business and have been looking at web hosting services. Part of my design service is to provide domain names and web hosting but I am not entirely sure if I can purchase one web hosting package and run a few websites from it? There are a range of different packages and I am unsure which one to go for and how much I should be paying for them?
I would appreciate any help with this topic
Thanks

Hi Owen. we can also set you up with a resellers account so you can resell web hosting. See our site at: http://www.designrweb.co.uk We are running Redhat Linux and using the Plesk control panel. All the usual fetaures including webmail, MySQL databases, POP/ STMP...etc Also visit our forums at: http://forums.designrweb.co.uk for our client feedback and our demo tutorials at: http://tutorial.designrweb.co.uk
Thank you
Jay

Hi Owen
Reseller accounts typically are split so that you can choose whether you want to do Windows or Linux hosting. If you're likely to be all of your development work with ASP/MS SQL/Asccss etc then a windows only hosting package should do the trick. Cost for this would be about £500/year and you should be able to pay monthly/quaterly/yearly etc. Its similar if you're developing using perl/php/mysql technologies. IF you're looking to offer all the technologies (windows/open soure) then you could get a combined reseller account for about £800 per year. All these will allow you to resell as many hosting accounts as you want.
One point to remember though is the cost of "extras" like databases, SSL, etc. Some company will charge on top of their basic price, while others give an all inclusive price. For many web designers the choice of shopping cart system is also critical to winning ecommerce projects. There are quite a few packages out there. I suggest you have a look at www.bazaarbuilder.com which is a low cost but very powerful shopping cart system(from £ 99). As it inlcudes database and secure server as part of the package fewer of the extras would be required.
For domain names you could use a separate specialist provider than your hosting company. Hosting company will charge much more generally for domain registration.
Hope this has been of some help
Ian
