The UK’s most inspiring entrepreneurs aged 35 and under have been revealed in Growing Business’ Young Guns 2012 list.
Despite launching their companies on average just four years ago the Young Guns, who were unveiled at an awards ceremony at the Kensington Roof Gardens, already achieve an average turnover of £7m.
With an average age of 31, the successful finalists from 30 different companies, join an alumni of more than 300 entrepreneurs named since the first Young Guns awards in 2003.
Sponsored by accountancy group haysmacintyre and law firm Farrer & Co, the Young Guns awards have previously recognised the talents of Innocent Drinks co-founder Richard Reed and Thea Green of Nails Inc, among a variety of bright entrepreneurs.
Now in its 10th year, the Young Guns ceremony also awarded ustwo’s Matt ‘Mills’ Miller with the overall haysmacintyre Top Gun title, a title bestowed upon the business judges felt stood out most. London-based digital design studio ustwo employs 120 people and is expected to generate revenues of £10.5m next year.
Alumnus Mayank Patel OBE, who founded Currencies Direct (now part of Azibo Holdings) in 1996, was named Farrer & Co’s Golden Gun, which recognises outstanding achievement in the past year. His business was invited to join the prestigious World Economic Forum’s Global Growth Companies community – an honour just 350 companies across 60 countries have received.
Hailing from eight different counties, this year’s co-founders, CEOs and managing directors, are showing resilience to the current economic climate, with 88% reporting that the recession is having a neutral or positive effect on business.
Crimson Publishing’s editorial director, Ian Wallis is proud to announce such an inspiring set of young entrepreneurs: “The quality, diversity and uniqueness of entrepreneurial companies bursting through in the UK never ceases to astound.
“Starting and growing a fast-growth company is highly risky, exciting and most of all, damned hard work. Despite that and the backdrop of a tough economic climate, there’s no shortage of good entrepreneurs finding gaps in sizeable markets. This list celebrates entrepreneurial endeavour in glorious Technicolor.”
