Entrepreneurs who have found their perfect business url unavailable may be thrown a lifeline with a new service from 123-reg.

The domain registrar’s domain backordering facility can monitor a particular web address on behalf of an entrepreneur and notify them when it is close to expiring.

With a record number of new businesses created in 2011, competition for the best website names is tougher than ever. However, the new service accepts only one backorder per domain, securing entrepreneurs their place in line to occupy the url when it expires.

Should that website’s owner choose to renew the domain, 123-reg has pledged to continue its monitoring until the next expiration date at no additional cost.

Registration is available for one or two years and prices start at £24.99, rising to £34.99 for more exclusive domain names. In addition, a £9.99 administration fee applies.

Thomas Vollrath, CEO of 123-reg said: “With more people pursuing self-employment, getting your company and website name right is vital, and it can be extremely disappointing to discover your chosen domain has been taken already.

“Competition for names is high and it’s hard to predict when domains will become available. With this service, 123-reg removes all the inconvenience of regularly monitoring the domain, by doing so on your behalf at a reasonable price – so you can have peace of mind that you won’t miss out again.”
